Coffey's clients have varying nationalities and operate around the world. He has successfully completed major projects in the European Union, Morocco, The Philippines, Poland, South Africa and Thailand, including full project management to introduce products and services in Europe and to expand their distribution. He speaks fluent English, French and German and can work in Spanish and all other major languages.

Before opening his international law practice in Charlotte in 1991, Coffey had his practice in Paris for six years. He has served in the Legal Service of the European Union Commission (Brussels); as an associate at Dewey Ballantine; as European counsel for General Motors; as general counsel for Europe, the Middle East and Africa for Revlon; and as chairman of the International Group at Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice. He was educated at Wabash College and at Indiana (honors), Chicago (master's degree) and Munich University Law Schools.
